We are ultimately producing engineers to meet the needs of the nation’s industrial complex.
A Brief History of the Creation, Past and Current Leadership of the Department:
It was the aim of the University to develop courses in Applied Sciences, Engineering and Technology in line with national planning objectives and manpower needs. Hence, the Faculty was conceived in 1984/85 session with the take-off scheduled in June, 1985 after a Panel comprising seasoned experts, experienced educationists and professionals had met and considered the proposed Faculty programmes and forwarded its recommendations to the Senate of the University. On this note, the University decided to establish the departments of Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
The first set of students in the Faculty were admitted in 1985/86 Session and they were introduced to foundation courses in the Faculty of Science before they began to take engineering courses, technical laboratory practical and workshop courses as well as undergoing industrial training programmes. Record of the University indicates that past Deans of the Faculty are as follow: 1985-1986 - Prof. B.D. Ako (Dean of Science) who oversaw the Faculty, 1986-1988 - Prof. V.A.
