Establishment Of Gender Centre: A Step Towards World Class Vision…. EKSU VC
The Immdiate Past Vice-Chancellor of Ekiti State University, Professor Patrick Oladipo Aina has said that the institution took a bold step to establish the Centre for Gender and Development Studies as part of its mission to be a World Class University.
He also said that the establishment of the Centre would provide the University a platform for equity, fairness and justice.
Professor Aina was speaking at the maiden one-day instructors’ workshop organised by the Centre for Gender and Development Studies of Ekiti University which took place at the 3000-Lecture Theatre. According to him, a Strategic goal for the Centre is to institutionalize Gender education; and gender/justice principles within the EKSU system and the larger society.
The Vice-Chancellor was of the opinion that the University could achieve these, through the establishment of Gender and Development Academic Programmes, engendering of academic disciplines across the University using gender as an analytical tool, and treating gender as a cross-cutting issue in both academic and administrative engagements of the University.
Earlier, the Director Centre for Gender and Development Studies, Professor (Mrs) O. I. Aina stated the objectives of the workshop, adding that it was meant to Train the Trainers’ Technical Workshop stressing that it was targeted at the academics to impart knowledge and build a community of experts on gender matters.
The Workshop was attended by several members of academic staff while papers were presented on Gender and Development Frameworks, Engendering Medical and Mental Health Education, Gender Methodologies and Integrating Gender perspectives into academic Programmes.
The facilitators included Prof. O. I. Aina, Dr. I. Ilesanmi and Dr. Boladele Mapayi, among others.
