EKSU ICT EXPERIENCE CENTRE: CHANCELLOR HAILS TINUBU, FIRST LADY FOR TURNING 44-YEAR DREAM INTO A REALITY

The Chancellor of Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti, Dr. Tunji Olowolafe, has described the newly commissioned TETFund-sponsored ICT Experience Centre as the fulfilment of a 44-year-old dream and a major milestone in the institution’s drive towards digital transformation and globally competitive education.
Speaking at the commissioning of the ICT Experience Centre held at EKSU campus Ado Ekiti on Saturday 30th May 2026, Dr. Olowolafe commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, for their commitment to educational development and digital inclusion across the country.
According to the Chancellor, the facility represents more than a physical structure, describing it as a gateway to digital literacy, innovation and future-ready education for generations of students.
“We are here to commission more than a building. We are here to open a door to digital literacy, digital fluency and the kind of practical, future-ready education that our students need to compete and lead, not just in Nigeria, but globally,” he said.
Dr. Olowolafe noted that for much of the university’s 44-year history, the vision of establishing a world-class ICT Experience Centre remained unrealised until the intervention of the Federal Government through TETFund.
“For a majority of those 44 years, the dream of a world-class ICT Experience Centre remained a dream. Today, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and through the intervention and support of the First Lady, that dream has become a reality,” he stated.
The Chancellor also lauded the Tinubu administration’s reforms in the education sector, particularly the establishment of the National Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which he described as a revolutionary initiative aimed at removing financial barriers to higher education.
“For too long, financial poverty has been the ceiling on intellectual potential in our country. NELFUND is a direct answer to that injustice and a policy that will continue to impact generations of Nigerian students,” he said.
Highlighting the significance of the ICT Experience Centre, Dr. Olowolafe urged students to maximise the opportunities provided by the facility.
“The ICT Centre we are opening today is built for you. It is your gateway to the digital skills that the modern global economy demands. Use it with discipline, curiosity and determination,” he charged.
The Chancellor also praised the Executive Secretary of TETFund for the effective implementation of interventions across tertiary institutions and commended the Vice Chancellor of EKSU, Professor Joseph Babatola Ayodele, for positioning the university to attract and maximise developmental projects.
He also expressed appreciation to the Governor of Ekiti State and Visitor to the University, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, for his unwavering support to EKSU through increased infrastructural development and institutional support.
Dr. Olowolafe reserved special commendation for the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, describing her as a partner in nation-building and educational advancement.
“Your presence here is a blessing to this institution. We thank you for your personal intervention that has made this ICT Experience Centre possible, through the Renewed Hope Initiative, and for showing Nigerian students that the government believes in them,” he said.
The Chancellor reaffirmed EKSU’s commitment to leveraging technology and innovation to advance teaching, learning and research, stressing that the ICT Experience Centre will serve as a catalyst for digital excellence and capacity development among students and staff.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON; Wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Nana Shettima; the Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji; the First Lady of Ekiti State, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji; the Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele; the Executive Secretary of TETFund; members of the Governing Council, principal officers of the university, traditional rulers and other distinguished guests.
